The Muni Update
The Muni Update
Apr 20, 2025
Good Morning,
This week there were two reports of private golf carts missing from the north cart shed. Two weeks ago there was a report of two sets of golf clubs missing from the north cart shed. A month ago there was a report of a missing cart charger from the north cart shed. Police reports have been filed for all of these incidents other than the cart charger. Both cart owners were able to provide the police with make, model, and serial numbers for the golf carts. This information was also passed on to the EZ-GO dealership in Britt.
Our cart sheds are locked at closing when staff leaves and opened in the morning when staff arrives to work. The sheds remain locked if the golf course is not open. There have been no signs of forced entry in the cart shed and every morning the doors have all been closed and locked. We have no idea if the thefts are occurring during the day or night.
I have spoken to four businesses to get proposals for security cameras installed for the entrances to our buildings. They have been provided an aerial map with all of our buildings in view. Each company will be on site next week to take pictures and create a security plan and quote to the golf course. These will be discussed with the City Manager and a request will be made to the city council.
Our Virtual Membership Drive deadline was yesterday and there were over 250 people making their payment to get registered for the raffle drawing done this morning. The lucky winners of $50 gift certificates to The Muni are: Perry DeGroot, Lisa Kaiser, Turner Soden, Shawn Kilbride, and Blake Goss. The winner of the $100 gift certificate is Rich Cody. We appreciate everyone who purchased their season passes and green fee punch cards for the 2025 season. These gift certificates will be ready Monday morning in the clubhouse.
By the end of the upcoming week we will be transitioning to our new flags with The Muni logo. Staff will also be painting the inside of the cup placements to give a cleaner appearance to the hole on the putting green. They are small additions but we are excited to add a little eye appeal on the greens.
The weather continues to slow the Spring "green up" process at the golf course. Soil temperatures need to get over 50 degrees before we start seeing the grass growing on a regular basis and have the ability to start taking up nutrients in the soil. This morning it was a 44.3 degree soil temperature at one inch soil depth. Soil temperatures should get better next week with the extended forecast.
We are still a couple of weeks away from our seasonal maintenance schedule of mowing and other turf practices. We have mowed greens, tees, and fairways a few times but not more than once a week this far into the season. This has allowed us to work on some other areas of the golf course which include:
- mulch added at the clubhouse landscaping
- monitor irrigation stations and performance
- prune trees and document those for removal
- cleaning sand traps and plan for sand added in early May
Some additional projects we will begin working on include landscape renovations, finish clean up around the shelter by #5 tees, and coordinate the concrete pour on the shelter by #16 tees.
I would like to wish a very beautiful Sunday to everyone and hopefully you are able to spend it with family. Please reach out if there are any questions or you would like additional information.
