The Muni Update
The Muni Update
Nov 10, 2024
Good Morning,
Staff have been very busy working on the irrigation system the past several weeks. The majority of the repairs have been on the lateral line side of the valve and also cleaning out diaphragms. The most obvious sign of leaking lateral lines is a saturated valve box and green grass in a small patch of non irrigated turf. We finished cleaning up the last remaining repairs on Friday and charged the system late in the morning. I completely expect to still have a couple of issues as we move forward but overall we have made some huge steps with the system.
The rainfall totals over the past week have been extremely beneficial to our turfgrass. I will run the irrigation system, at times, to ensure we have plenty of moisture in the soil profile and surface of the golf greens heading into the winter months. All irrigation cycles should be complete early in the morning but there is a possibility some stations might run later in the morning. We want to have plenty of moisture before the ground freezes and we begin the cold season.
The weather forecast looks very nice for this upcoming week. We have some temperatures in the 50's with above freezing overnight low temperatures. The golf course will remain open until we get cold weather that creates several inches of a frozen soil profile on the greens. Once this occurs the golf course will be closed for the remainder of the 2024 season. There should definitely be ten good days left to enjoy some golf.
Golf course conditions have been very nice especially since we have been dealing with severe drought conditions for quite a few months. The recent rain has brought back a slight green contrast in the grass where all of our non irrigated areas are on the golf course. It went from full dormancy to showing signs of life in the past week. Having the precipitation in these areas is a huge benefit heading into the snow season.
We have completed the tree stump removal throughout the entire golf course. Thank you to the Park Department for assisting us with this process. We still need to clean up a couple larger areas but for the most part we are finished. These areas will all be seeded this week.
The Street Division was on site to start the process on the shelter located by #5 and #14 tees. The area was prepped at the end of the week and will be ready for a concrete pour Tuesday morning at 8:30. Once this shelter is completed we will evaluate a game plan for the shelter located behind #2 green.
The Muni is hosting the final golf event of the 2024 season this morning. We have a shotgun start at 11:00 with 48 golfers registered. Hopefully we pick up a few more teams with the pleasant weather today. Open golf will still be available today for anyone not participating in the golf event.
Music Bingo is scheduled for Thursday, November 21 in the clubhouse. This event is a fundraiser for UDMO of Clay County. I am very happy to announce this event is sold out. All 30 team tables have been reserved for the night. Thank you to everyone that signed up a team to help support UDMO who in turn supports so many great causes in our wonderful community. We will have another music bingo event in March of 2025.
This concludes another week at The Muni. Enjoy the remainder of the weekend. Please reach out with questions or the need for further information on a topic.
