The Muni Update
Jun 29, 2025
Good Morning,
This past week there were multiple days of rainfall that totalled 2.8" of precipitation. The golf leagues on Wednesday were rained out but we were still able to host The Chamber Golf Outing on Friday and the Iowa Lakes Regional Water golf event on Saturday. It was definitely a challenge staying on top of the day to day maintenance practices for the grounds.
When there are golf events at The Muni we always try to get open golf available to the public as soon as possible. On Saturday morning there was a private event with a shotgun start on holes #1, #18, #17, #16, #15, and #14. Once they completed the 18th hole the golf outing groups moved to hole number one until they had completed all 18 holes. This opened up tee times later in the morning for open golf.
Clubhouse staff did a great job of informing the open golfers about the golf outing and that play would be a little bit slower than normal. The golf outing also did a great job of letting some of the open golfers squeeze in on the front nine if there was a gap in play. Overall it went pretty smooth considering we were hosting a private outing while allowing open play.
An early morning storm produced a half inch of rain and the golf course is once again saturated but not beyond the point of playability. We will be asking golfers to please be careful and respectful to the wet conditions today while golfing. It's been very busy just about every day with a lot of cart traffic. We thank everyone for doing a good job of avoiding the wet spots this past week.
We have approximately 25-30 trees that need to be removed from the golf course with the majority being Ash trees. Originally these trees were going to go out for bid with the remaining ash trees in need of removal on city property, but there has been a change of plans. After meeting with Park Director, Bob Fullhart, we feel our departments can work together to get these trees removed. This project will consist of removing the small trees first and later in the season we will work on the larger trees.
Weather conditions have put a lot of our current projects on hold. These include the landscape renovation for the tee boxes and around the two shelters. Also, painting tee signs, edging sand traps, topdressing greens, and spot spraying weeds are on the list.
Our clubhouse operations have been going very smoothly and our new staff members are transitioning very nicely into the role. We have been running the beer cart Tuesday through Sunday during leagues and busy times at the course. It has been working pretty smoothly and we will continue to make any improvements to accommodate our golfers.
It's turning out to be a beautiful day after the morning showers! I hope everyone enjoys the remainder of their weekend. Please reach out if you have any questions or would like additional information.
