The Muni Update
Jun 1, 2025
Good Morning,
This past week I completed about 95% of the herbicide applications for the golf course. There is still a little bit of rough to treat on the left side of #15 in the rough as well as the out of play area on #14. Once these areas are completed I will start hand spraying around the trees and bushes on the golf course. There has been immediate visible control of the dandelions and other broadleaf weeds around the golf course.
The Street Division completed the renovation of our shelter behind #2 green. Painting the structure is the only remaining item for completion outside of the landscaping plans. We thank the Street Division staff for helping provide us with two functional shelters on the golf course. We have minimized the entrances to eliminate golf carts from driving into these structures which allows more golfers to enter the shelter during extreme weather conditions.
Fairways, tees, and green surrounds were treated with a granular fertilizer application late in the week. This application will provide nutrients to the turfgrass through the summer months until the next application in early September. Irrigation programs will run the next few nights to help move the fertilizer prills into the turf canopy so they are not damaged by mowing equipment.
I also treated the greens and collars with a foliar fertilizer and wetting agent application on Wednesday. This treatment will provide immediate nutritional value to the bentgrass greens and help provide a healthy putting surface for our golfers. Foliar fertilizers and fungicides are generally applied at 14 day intervals during the golf season.
Last fall I met with the Spirit of Okoboji to create a memorial sculpture for our shop cat, Caddie, who passed away last fall. They had a program called Okobo Tree that is currently underway to provide public art in the Lakes region. On Friday the wood sculptor completed the memorial for Caddie outside of the maintenance facility. This carving was done on Caddie's favorite tree she liked to play in on a daily basis. The funding was made possible by their group and the staff at the golf course. We are very happy with the finished product.
The next couple of weeks the maintenance staff will be edging our sand traps and starting the landscape renovation project. These will both be pretty time consuming tasks especially the landscape work. Both projects will provide a great visual result upon completion.
Enjoy the remainder of the beautiful weekend. Please reach out to me if you have questions or would like additional information on a topic.
