The Muni Update
Good Morning,

This past week the pumphouse renovation started with Dakota Pump and Control on site. They spent a couple of days placing the new 75 horsepower turbine in the wet well followed by the 5 horsepower jockey pump. The turbine will maintain the system when the irrigation is in operation of 835 gallons per minute and a PSI of 100. The jockey pump will run to maintain the correct PSI when the system is not in operation.
This initial setup allowed the contractor to make sure all the pipe measurements were correct and the system would operate as expected. The plumbing from the wet well ties into existing six inch galvanized steel piping that leaves the pumphouse and feeds the irrigation system throughout the golf course. The six inch line leaving the pumphouse is the only existing material that will be used with the new pumphouse operations.
Dakota Pump left the majority of the piping in place at the end of their setup operations. There were several sections of six inch steel piping that went back to their home office to be welded and painted. When they return for the final installation this piping will be placed permanently.
Our contractor will return in late February or early March to complete the last phase of this project. The motors to control the turbine and jockey pump will be installed to operate these pumps. There will be two VFD control panels mounted on the wall and electrically connected to the motors. Pixler Electric will complete all the necessary electric work and our irrigation consultant will handle the new programming.

The old pumphouse controls were operated by two 40 horsepower centrifugal pumps as well as a 15 horsepower jockey pump. When the system was operational it would pump 825 gallons of water per minute at a PSI of 100. All three of these pumps were severely damaged during the flood on June 22. We fortunately limped through the remainder of the golf season before they finally started failing to operate.
This project falls under the City of Spencer's FEMA projects as a result of the flood. We met with two different pump companies to develop a solution that met the criteria of the mitigation plan developed for this pumphouse project. The turbine and submersible pump will eliminate the threat of flood damage to our equipment. The motors and control panels will be mounted multiple feet above the high water mark in the pumphouse.

I would like to wish each of you a Merry Christmas and Happy Holiday season. It's such a beautiful time of the year when each one of us can make a positive impact in the lives of all we meet. Share a friendly smile or a kind word to those you meet in passing. I hope the remainder of your weekend is wonderful.
