The Muni Update
Good Morning,

This morning we hosted the annual Special Olympics golf outing. There were 27 athletes participating with their sponsors playing two person alternate shot for either six or nine holes. It is such a great event that really brings a lot of smiles to every face on the golf course. It is one of my favorite events each golf season.
Open golf was available on the back nine this morning and we just opened the entire 18 holes to open golf the remainder of the day. The event went pretty smoothly with everyone finishing in about two and a half hours. We were happy not to have rain this year for the event. The past two years had rainfall causing the event to be shortened.

This past week we dealt with high temperatures once again. The irrigation system and staff have been working at full speed to keep the golf course in nice shape. We still have a couple of greens recovering from isolated dry areas but overall the golf course is in nice shape.
I continued to work on irrigation repairs this past week. Multiple valves have been cleaned out along with other minor repairs. We also broke an intake in the pumphouse on Thursday which caused us some issues during the day. Friday morning everything was back functioning properly. There are still some issues with a few valves leaking but we continue to address the issues on a daily basis.

The extreme amounts of moisture early in the season has resulted in the turfgrass having very short root depth in the soil. Normally the root system starts off shallow in the spring and starts to grow deeper into the soil profile as the season progresses. The roots normally need to grow a little deeper to grab moisture for the turf plant. This season the root depth is shallow since moisture has been so available to the plant. This results in turf browning when conditions become dry and hot.
Tomorrow we will be hosting the Iowa Lakes Corridor golf outing. The course will be closed late morning until late afternoon. There will be no golf board meeting in the evening.

Please reach out with questions or if you would like additional information on a topic. Enjoy the remainder of the weekend!
